Postdocs

Jessica Orrego Hernández (Industrial Postdoc)
I was born in a small village close to the sea (Apartadó-Colombia) and raised in Bogotá-Colombia. I earned my chemistry degree at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Then, I did my master's and PhD studies at Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) researching the synthesis of pyrazoles as fluorescent chemosensors for the detection of ions in water. In 2019, I moved to Gothemburg-Sweden to work at Kasper Moth-Poulsen group as a postdoctoral researcher developing the scalable synthesis of photoswitches for solar energy storage applications. In 2021, I joined a startup company called Celcibus AB located in Gothenburg-Sweden where I am working in the development of PGM-free catalysts for PEM fuel cells. Currently, I am an industrial postdoctoral researcher teaming up with the Giovannitti group and Celcibus AB. The current position is funded by the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE) which aims to develop new electrode materials for fuel cells and electrolyzer applications.

Jessika Öhberg (2024)
I´m from Gothenburg and grew up in Frölunda but I have since moved to one of Sweden's biggest islands, Hisingen. I attended the International High School of Gothenburg region(IHGR), located right beside Chalmers, so I only moved a few hundred meters when I started the chemical engineering program at Chalmers. After my bachelor's, I began the material chemistry master's program and this is where my interest in polymer science started. So for my master's thesis, I was happy to join the Giovanittis research group to work on the purification of redox-active polymers. Other things I enjoy are spending time with my family, friends, and my two dogs, a poodle, and a shih-poo who I love to play with and take long walks with.

Albin Petrén (2024) - Current position: PhD Student in Gio-group
Growing up on the islands in the archipelago surrounding Gothenburg, studying at Chalmers University was always a dream growing up. I eventually attended the Bachelor program in Electrochemical engineering with Physics, which continued with a master’s degree in Materials Chemistry where my thesis topic was aimed at the use of organic electrode materials for efficient electrochemical synthesis. Outside of my studies I enjoy traveling, hiking, mountaineering and biking to explore the different environments of the world.

Sebastian Müller (2025)
Being from a small village outside Piteå in northern Sweden, I moved to Gothenburg in 2020 to study chemical engineering at Chalmers. Taking my last semester at the Materials chemistry master’s program, I am now working on my thesis project in the Giovannitti group, focusing on the purification of polymers using liquid chromatography. My interest in chemistry developed when I was a kid, watching TV-shows like the Mythbusters, and having great chemistry teachers in school further enhanced this interest. In my free time, I enjoy playing music - primarily drums but also some guitar and bass.

Purin Sathirathai (24/25, now PhD student in Giovannitti group)
Born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, I have always been attracted to science. I completed my bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University. During my undergraduate years, I joined various research groups which sparked an interest in material science within me. Thus, I decided to pursue a master’s program in Materials Chemistry at Chalmers. I am currently working on metal complexes for photocatalysis applications. In my spare time, you can find me enjoying my stereo or reading books.

Benjamin Tiberghien (2025)
Benjamin Tiberghien was a Master student from EPFL. Benjmain worked on electrochemical synthesis and testing new electrode materials.
Research Assistant and Interns

Aqila Naseri (January-August 2024)
Originating from Ghazni, Afghanistan, and having migrated to Sweden, I proudly call both nations my homes. My passion for science since childhood led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, and currently, I am undertaking a Master's in Material Chemistry at Chalmers University of Technology. In addition to my studies, I work part-time as an amanuensis in the Giovannitti group at Chalmers. I am deeply interested in researching and developing new materials to advance technological innovation and address significant societal issues. Beyond my scientific pursuits, you'll find me in the kitchen experimenting with recipes, playing volleyball, and indulging in poetry during my spare time.

Manon Denis (June-August 2024)
I am from France, specifically from around Paris. Currently, I am in my fourth year at ESCOM university in Compiègne (France), studying chemical engineering with a specialization in formulation and materials. As part of my studies, I need to complete an internship abroad. I chose Gothenburg and, in particular, Chalmers University of Technology because of the wide range of fields studied there. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join Giovannitti's group for a 3-month internship, focusing on the purification of organic semiconducting polymers. This experience is incredibly enriching! Outside of work and studies, I love discovering new countries by wandering through the streets and exploring new culinary specialties. Also, I enjoy playing badminton and dancing

Joseph Gott (June-August 2024)
I've lived my entire life in sunny Los Angeles, California. I am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara with the goal of pursuing a PhD afterward. My research focuses on the development and understanding of electrocatalysts essential for sustainable chemical manufacturing. I am fascinated with space and it is my dream to one day contribute to the research that makes space exploration possible. When I am not working I love spending time in nature, reading books on the beach, or playing with my cat.
